Another Double And The Wondermare

On Wednesday STAR OF LANKA started off a great few days for Warren Greatrex Racing winning the 2m3f novice hurdle impressively at Hereford. He was piloted by Daryl Jacob and took a keen hold throughout. They took to the lead two out and finished 12 lengths in front of the pack with Daryl only giving a hands and heals finish. STAR OF LANKA‘s jumping was very slick and he can go a strong gallop for a good amount of distance which all bodes very well for this youngster. His owners, J&R Eynon, Little, Roberts, Dowley & Turner, should be very excited for more to come from him.

ENCORE CHAMPS brought us another double on the day, after the success at Hereford, winning the 2m novice hurdle at Wetherby under Gavin Sheehan. This was his debut over hurdles and showed us everything we had hoped for after his strong bumper runs. Gavin kept him in contention throughout and was closing on the leader when it stumbled at the last unseating Tom Scudamore and opening the door for us to motor home. Gavin’s ride was ever confident and ENCORE CHAMPS we are sure would have got there, but as you can see in the picture below Warren had a few words to say to his jockey after the race!

Congratulations to Bryan Drew/ Swanee River Partnership who recently purchased ENCORE CHAMPS and have got themselves another nice horse.

We all know that this mare is very special. LA BAGUE AU ROI keeps on proving that she is on the cusp of the big leagues and her step up to fences has let her shine brighter than ever before. On Friday she was again ridden by Dickie Johnson and they came out on top of the Grade 2 Ladbrokes Novices’ Chase at Newbury. They made all once again and stayed in command throughout the 2m4f trip to finish seven lengths in front of second. Her jumping is fantastic and she gets slicker with every fence. Each time she comes to an obstacle you can see her learning more and it is brilliant to see the transition to these larger obstacles going so well. It is great to see her becoming a star and we are thrilled for owners Nicky Turner and The Merriams.

There are a few options for her with where to go next as she is capable of a variety of distances.

Hopefully the best is yet to come for our ‘wondermare’.

Yesterday saw an event that very rarely happens in racing, a ‘walk over’. This is where there is only one horse in the race. BAILARICO was entered in the 2m4f novice hurdle at Leicester and due to ground concerns, no other horses found the race suitable. The race then consists of the one horse cantering down the home straight on their own past the winning flags. Strange circumstances but a good leg stretch and day out for BAILARICO and a nice pot for the fortunate Fitorfat Racing Syndicate.

On the day of our double MASTER CARD ran a cracking race to finish 3/4 of a length second at Hereford, nearly giving us a treble! Here he is looking very pleased with himself alongside Tara in the winners’ enclosure.
