Another Solid Week

 In Latest News

Although we had no victories since last week’s flurry of gold, all of our runners have run well and hit the crossbar with one fifth and the rest not out of the top four. One of the most impressive runs was that of PENN LANE who has come back onto the track after a 630-day absence. He had a strong start to his career back in 2015 before picking up a tendon injury in 2016. He has had a good amount of time off to recover and strengthen his leg and returned in fantastic fettle. He ran on Friday at Huntingdon in the 2m4f Handicap Hurdle under Gavin Sheehan. Like all of the ground last week it was soft and therefore Gavin was told to keep wide and find some nicer/less churned up ground. PENN LANE travelled fantastically well and amounted a late challenge on the winner to miss by half a length. Gavin did all of the right things as we didn’t know how fragile this horse would be after his lay-off. However, we now know he is back into fighting form and has stood up well to his training along with his race. Therefore we can now continue with him as we would any other and hopefully get him back into the Winner’s Enclosure for Alan & Andrew Turner very soon.

The weekend brought another meeting at the hallowed ground of Cheltenham and there was a brilliant card on show for the Festival Trials Day. The Waley-Cohen’s THEATRE TERRITORY put in a great display of jumping and galloping in the 2m4f Novices’ Handicap Chase. She was ridden by Sam who kept her tailing the leaders throughout until they challenged three out. THEATRE TERRITORY with the winner drew clear of the field, in which had some very progressive youngsters, by 15 lengths at the line. She has shown us a huge amount at home and has been unlucky to bump into a few on the track this year. However, there is no doubt that she will in time be coming home victorious.

Employee Of The Month

Last Wednesday the Warren Greatrex Team went out for a group meal at a Chinese in Swindon. It is always a good opportunity to get some group bonding outside of work hours and keep morale up. Each month, the management choose an ‘Employee Of The Month’ which is very kindly sponsored by ‘Spillers’ feed and includes a voucher for Wick’s and a bottle of Prosecco. January’s winner was Alicia Kingstone who joined the yard at the beginning of this season after her time at Racing School. She was given this due to being enthusiastic, reliable, always trying her best, an improvement in her riding and always having a smile on her face. She is a great asset to the team and we are very lucky to have her.
