Happy New Year to you all!
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. Personally I had a lovely one although I have only just recovered from my day out hunting on Christmas Eve!
It was great fun but I have not sat on a horse for 3 years so to be on one for 5 hours did not really agree with me! Evie, Nell and Nancy had a brilliant Christmas and as we all know it is all about the kids! Also the yard is really starting to hit top gear with 4 winners in the last week and others running really well.
Shantou Bob won well at Chepstow in a competitive race. It was so pleasing to see him back in the winners enclosure. He was my best Novice 2 seasons ago but has had injuries since which have stopped his progress. No decision has been made where we go now I will see what the handicapper does tomorrow. I was so happy for his owners who have been very patient!. Reillys Minor won his 1st race for us at Taunton on Friday.
He had cheekpieces on for the 1st which helped and was given a nice ride by Harry Cobden. He is sure to progress from here. On Saturday we had an across the card double with Final Choice and Carnspindle. Final Choice won a decent looking Juvenile hurdle. He could be quite exciting as he is improving fast! He could go back to Newbury in a couple of weeks? Carnspindle won the mares bumper at Uttoxeter ridden by my son Tom. This meant so much to me as it was his 1st winner for me! The filly won well and looks to have a bright future. Boite ran a great race at Newbury and I will aim him at the Tote Gold Trophy in February back at Newbury.
Yesterday I was really pleased with how Cole Harden ran. He showed real enthusiasm and galloped right to the line. It was a much better run than in the same race last year and I feel it was his best run for over a year! The only downside over the last week or so is that Gavin is out for a while with a broken wrist. This is not great timing but we will just have to get on with it! We wish Gavin a quick recovery!
