Starting The New Year Right!

AUDACITY

AUDACITY kicked off 2020 in the best way possible for the newly formed ‘The Audacity Partnership’ by winning the Listed Standard Open NHA Flat Race at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day. Having only owned the 4-year-old for a fortnight, this was AUDACITY’s debut run for the new syndicate and it couldn’t have gone any better.

Gavin Sheehan gave him an exceptional ride in the card’s last race of the day, taking an early position at the front of the 16-strong field. The lightly raced 4-year-old settled into a decently paced rhythm and continued to maintain his position there throughout the race. His win however did not come unchallenged as coming up the Cheltenham Hill he faced strong competition from both OCEAN WIND and GENOLA, who tried to power on past him but he showed determination and stamina in order to keep his head in front, beating OCEAN WIND by a neck to secure first place in what was a very exciting Bumper.

PORTRUSH TED

Last Thursday, PORTRUSH TED returned to the track in style to win the 2m5f Handicap Hurdle at Ayr after a 519 day break. The owners, the Mcneill Family, have been incredibly patient with this horse, allowing us the time to get him back to form, and so it is great that they have been rewarded with this success.

PORTRUSH TED was given a confident ride by Adrian Heskin and jumped well throughout. The duo maintained a strong position at the front of the field right from the start before going on to take the lead over the final five hurdles. As they approached the finish they were challenged by Derek Fox and GRAND MORNING but PORTRUSH TED continued to finish strong, securing victory by 2¼ lengths.

As well as making the trip to Ayr worthwhile it was also nice to see that the 8-year-old was obviously extremely happy to be back racing as for the duration of the race his ears were pricked firmly forward!
