The Black Squirrel wins at Stratford
THE BLACK SQUIRREL made all to win the bumper at Stratford last Saturday under Dickie Johnson. He controlled the race well throughout and held off the baying Lady Vesta to win by 1¾ furlongs. This game little horse has hit the scoreboard each time he has run throughout the start of his career, so it is great to see him get his head in front this time. We are very fond of this horse and we look forward to seeing how he progresses into his hurdling campaign.
On Wednesday and Friday, we had our first schooling sessions after the horses’ Summer break. We took them up to the jumping ring at the top of Lambourn to do this. Each of the horses started over trotting poles and then progressed to barrels. Some of the older horses with Jockeys on board also progressed to the hurdles. We took 37 horses in all over the two days, and it was a great exercise all round as jumping is the name of the game. It was also a fantastic chance to let a majority of the rider-outers, who were all very competent, have a bit of fun and jump.
Below are a few videos of the schooling. To see more go to our YouTube Channel.
