The ups and downs of the Cheltenham Festival

 In Latest News

Well the end of another Cheltenham Festival and as always it never disappoints in drama and excitement! There were so many ups and downs a couple of winners that made me smile were Un De Seaux who is such a fun horse to watch.

Also Jessie Harrington winning the Gold Cup with her first runner in it after 30 years of training (shows you how hard it is to get a horse good enough to run in it!) She is such a lovely lady and an exceptional trainer.

Of our runners I was really pleased of how they ran. The only runner that disappointed a bit was Black Thunder who missed the break and never got into after that. Cole Harden ran another brave race on ground that had been over watered which put him at a disadvantage to start with! He will now go to Aintree. Keeper Hill made a mistake an important time but stayed on really well. He could go to Punchestown.

Missed Approach ran a cracker to be 2nd and was such a thrill for his owners! He could go for the Scottish National now. Western Ryder ran with huge credit. Was probably just a bit further back than we would have liked but he quickened up well and was only beaten 3 lengths. He could go to Aintree or Punchestown. La Bague Au Roi ran ok although I still feel she is better than that. I feel we got in a battle early on which did not help us at the end. She will probably go to Aintree. Paint The Clouds looked the winner coming down the hill but just got tired after the last. He still is an amazing horse who owes us nothing!

It was great to get our 50th winner yesterday thanks to Portrush Ted. My best season has been 53 so all being well we should surpass that. The horses seem to continue in great form and we still have plenty to run. It would be great if we could produce a big winner as well! The main thing is that as a yard we are improving all the time. You can’t do more than that.

We should have runners at all the main end of season meetings which is always fun for the owners. You always need a target. Finally it is good to have Harry back. He had a long time out but has come back riding well with 2 winners in the last week.
