Rhonehurst And Richard Johnson
Evie and Nell had their first training session for Shetland Pony Racing. They had a fantastic time and their ponies which were kindly lent by Trish and Philip Mitchell flew round to come first and second!
I am very excited to announce that at the beginning of July we will be moving down the road to train from Rhonehurst in Upper Lambourn; the same place I was Assistant Trainer to Oliver Sherwood for 11 years and a place which holds some really happy memories for me.
I am extremely grateful to Jim and Claire Bryce who have purchased Rhonehurst as a new base for me to train from, as well as an investment for themselves. I will always have very fond memories of training from Uplands and we have had great success in training from here, but I think it is important to keep improving and moving forwards so I am really excited about this opportunity.
Rhonehurst has incredible facilities, including a horse swimming pool and lots of paddocks for the horses. It will be great to welcome you to the yard over summer once we are all settled in; I am really looking forward to embarking on a new journey with you all.
This weekend saw the end of an era with the retirement of Richard ‘Dickie’ Johnson after 27 years in the saddle and more than 3,800 winners. Dickie has been a constant stalwart of the sport, on top of being a fierce competitor he has been a true gentleman to everyone around him and a role model to younger generations. We are honoured to be part of his legacy and thankful to him for the winners he gave us. Since Warren started training Dickie has ridden 258 races for him and produced 43 winners. His most formidable partnership for us being with the wonderful mare LA BAGUE AU ROI, who he rode to victory in two Grade Ones. Thank you Dickie for everything and enjoy the retirement you truly deserve Champ.
