FUTURE FORTUNE WINS ON DEBUT
It was a fairy tale start for the Dejeuner De Dames Syndicate last Tuesday at Hereford, when their first ever runner Future Fortune put in a fantastic performance to win the Vickers.Bet Open NH Flat Race on her racecourse debut!
Future Fortune is the first foal out of broodmare Magic Money, who Warren trained himself to win 2 Chases back in 2017, most noticeably the Challenger Series Mares’ Chase Final Handicap Chase at Haydock, whilst also finishing 2nd in the Mares’ Listed Chase round Cheltenham that season.
Small but mighty, Warren loved Magic Money’s hardy attitude and will to win, so when her first foal by Soldier Of Fortune came to the sales ring as a store last year, Tessa had no hesitation in buying her for herself, with the idea of setting up a Ladies’ Syndicate for her to run under.
So the Dejeuner De Dames Syndicate was born! Last season this group of ladies had great fun in deciding on Future Fortune’s racing name, and choosing the colours in which she would run, whilst also enjoying trips to the yard, mornings on the gallop, and of course, the all- important lunch!!!
Tuesday’s race was a competitive one, with Future Fortune being one of only a handful of runners who did not have previous race experience. She took the whole day in her stride however, and was completely unflappable in the preliminaries. During the race, James Bowen sat handy and Future Fortune traveled strongly throughout the race, always looking within her comfort zone. Coming round the home bend, they took up the lead and with the opposition breathing down their necks, James kicked for home! Fortune Fortune was a little green to start, rolling around the track to start with when asked for more, but always going forwards, and when her rivals came to her quarters, she went on again to win by three-quarters of a length!
A huge well-done has to go to Jordan who not only looks after Future Fortune, but also rides her every day both this season and last season when she was quite sassy! Jordan has done brilliantly to funnel Future Fortune’s zest for life into her work, and it is great to see them both reaping the rewards.
